What happens if nobody wins the euromillions

Skip to content Skip to footer. A Introduction to EuroMillions and UK Millionaire Maker 1 EuroMillions is a separate game in each participating country, but prizes are pooled and shared between all winning players using the results of a shared EuroMillions Draw.

This is explained in more detail below. If Your EuroMillions Entry matches any of the Prize categories in the table in Section C 2 below, You will win a Prize in the highest relevant Prize category providing the requirements of the Rules and these Procedures are met. The value of Your Prize will depend on the number of tickets sold, the number of entries that match the same numbers as You, and currency exchange rates — more detail is given on this in Section C 3 below.

All Prizes will be rounded down to the nearest 10p. For estimated Prizes, see the EuroMillions page on the site. The table below sets out and explains the Prize categories, the approximate odds of winning and the proportion of the Common Prize Fund explained in Section C 3 4 below allocated to each Prize category. Camelot is not liable in any circumstances, and will not pay a prize, to a player who bought an entry into EuroMillions from outside the UK or Isle of Man.

If there are more winners than expected in a Prize category for any EuroMillions Draw, the Prize for that Prize category might be lower than the Prize for a lower Prize category. If there are no winners in a Prize category except the Jackpot category , the prize money allocated to that Prize category will be added to the next lower Prize category where there is at least one winner.

As sales in the UK and Isle of Man are in pounds sterling, Camelot uses the exchange rate confirmed by its bankers on the date of the relevant EuroMillions Draw to calculate its contribution. The Common Prize Fund is allocated to each Prize category in the proportions set out in the table in Section C 2 above.

Once the allocation has been made, the Euro prize amounts relating to the number of winners in the UK and Isle of Man are payable to Camelot, and are converted into pounds sterling using the same exchange rate mentioned above.

The difference between the Camelot Prize Fund and Camelot's contribution to the Common Prize Fund is then dealt with in the following way: a if the Camelot Prize Fund is greater than the sterling value of its contribution to the Common Prize Fund using the same exchange rate mentioned above , the excess is added to the funds available to pay UK and Isle of Man Prizes in each Prize category, excluding the Jackpot category.

The excess is shared in the same proportion which the amount of Prizes payable in one Prize category has to the total amount of Prizes payable across all Prize categories excluding the Jackpot category ; and b if the Camelot Prize Fund is less than the sterling value of its contribution to the Common Prize Fund using the same exchange rate mentioned above , the shortfall is deducted from the funds available to pay UK and Isle of Man Prizes in each Prize category excluding the Jackpot category.

The shortfall is shared in the same proportion which the amount of Prizes payable in one Prize category has to the total amount of Prizes payable across all Prize categories excluding the Jackpot category.

This means Prizes in all Prize categories except the Jackpot Prize category are increased. Where Players pay less, Prizes in all Prize categories except the Jackpot category are reduced. EuroMillions Reserve Fund 8. When EuroMillions first began, the jackpot could only roll over for a maximum of 11 draws before it had to be given away — regardless of how much it was worth. The second and last time this happened was on Friday 17th November On that occasion no one matched all the numbers to win the jackpot, so the prize money was shared between 20 ticket holders who matched five numbers plus one Lucky Star.

Two of the winning tickets were purchased in France and one in Portugal. Take a look at the various changes that have been made to the Jackpot Cap over the years since EuroMillions launched:. When EuroMillions was launched in , the game was initially limited to a maximum of 11 consecutive rollovers, with no cap on the jackpot prize fund. If no player successfully matched all five main numbers and two Lucky Stars to win the top prize in the 12th draw, the money would roll down to be distributed to the next prize tier with winning players.

In September , a number of rule changes were introduced in order to generate bigger jackpots on a more regular basis. Originally, the prize total could reach its limit and remain active for one draw before rolling down in the second draw; however, these changes saw the limit increased to four draws. The EuroMillions prize structure was changed in February so that a larger percentage of the prize fund went to the jackpot in every draw.

The UK EuroMillions game procedures contain a clause that allows it to be raised or lowered in the future, stating "Camelot and the EuroMillions Partners can change the level of the jackpot cap at any time".

Draw Before Cap. This is supposed to create "a number of millionaires over the course of a week". Winners from Ireland, Portugal and Spain all have around 90 days to tell the world they've won. Meanwhile, Switzerland and the UK winners have days to claim the prize before it is distributed elsewhere.
